TRANSPORTATION

Getting there & away

Air
Flying in is the most convenient way to reach Valencia especially for travelers from the overseas as there are many carriers to choose from.  Valencia's modern Manises International Airport (VLC) which is located about 8 km from the city center is acclaimed as one of the most advanced in the country.  There are buses leaving the airport for the city center every 15 minutes and they operate from 6 am - 11 pm.  Taxis are plenty outside the airport and you can take one to the city center at the price of around 12 €.

Train
RENFE
is the national rail company with extensive network covering the whole of Spain including Valencia.  In addition, there is also Alaris which is a comfortable, AVE's non-high-speed-line which generally takes about three and a half hours from Madrid to Valencia.  Valencia's main train station is Estación del Norte on Xàtiva Street.  If you are traveling out of Valencia by train, this is also the place to go inquire about schedules and purchase tickets.
For train schedule or online train booking, check out RENFE's website at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/ingles.html.  If you are coming from France, it may be worth getting a France 'n Spain pass from Eurail which offers unlimited travel throughout France and Spain under a specific time period.

Bus
Samar
and Auto-Res operate buses that travel between Madrid and Valencia and the journey takes about four hours each way.  Valencia's bus station is located about 20 minutes from the universities to the west of the city.

Car
Valencia is now a few minutes over three hours from Madrid  by the A-3 highway.  If you drive from Barcelona or the French border, take the A-7.

Getting around
The city center is actually very accessible on foot, but Valencia does provide an elaborate network of public transportation including buses and metro.  The metro is made up of four different lines which travel to different parts of the city.  You can purchase a single pass as well as 3 and 5 day travel passes which is convenient if you are to spend a few days in the city.
